FAQ
-
What’s included in a surf lesson?
Each lesson includes a surfboard, rash guard (if needed), beach-based instruction and safety, and guided time in the water with a trained instructor. Beach chairs available by request.
-
Do I need any surf experience?
Not at all! We specialize in teaching first-timers and beginners of ALL ages. We’ll guide you step-by-step and make sure you're comfortable every wave of the way.
-
How long is a lesson?
Lessons are typically 1 to 2 hours, depending on the package booked. Most of the time is spent in the water, spending the first 15 minutes going over safety and other helpful tips that will ensure a great in-water experience.
-
Where do lessons take place?
We teach at beginner-friendly breaks on the North Shore of Oʻahu. The exact location is confirmed the day before your lesson based on surf conditions.
-
Do I need to know how to swim?
You don’t need to be a strong swimmer. Coaching is matched to your comfort level and swimming ability, and your instructor stays with you the whole time. If you have any concerns about being in the water, just mention it when booking so the lesson can be planned around it.
-
What happens if the weather is bad?
Safety comes first. If conditions are unsafe (strong winds, dangerous surf, etc.), we’ll notify you and either reschedule or issue a refund.
-
Do you offer private lessons?
Yes — private (1-on-1), semi-private, family/group, tandem, and advanced lessons are all available, along with stand-up paddleboard sessions.
-
Is it safe for kids / can my family surf together?
Yes, family and group lessons are available, and coaching is matched to each person’s comfort level and swimming ability. I’ve taught kids as young as 1.5 years old.
-
What should I bring?
A swimsuit, towel, and sunscreen — gear (board, rash guard) is provided.
-
Will I see sea turtles?
Hawaiian green sea turtles are a common sight at the break — a nice bonus alongside the lesson itself.
